About PRIME
PRIME stands for The Prince’s Initiative for Mature Enterprise. It is a registered charity (no. 1138233), and a member of the Prince’s Charities group. It was set up on the personal initiative of HRH The Prince of Wales in response to letters he was receiving from people desperate to work but unable to find anyone to employ them – because of their age.
PRIME is the only national organisation dedicated to helping older people start and run their own businesses. A third of those aged between 50 and state pension age are not working, with the large percentage dependent on benefits. By comparison self-employment, or perhaps setting up in business with other people (a partnership, social enterprise or co-op), are attractive options.
Charitable Objects
The relief of charitable needs for the public benefit of people who are over the age of 50, and who are either not in paid work or who are facing redundancy, and who would benefit through enhanced income, opportunities for engagement in meaningful activity and the prevention of social exclusion, particularly through the encouragement of self-employment, especially, but not exclusively, by the provision of practical advice, financial assistance, training and education
